Based off the audio titled “The Real Tom Banks”, the part of the audio I chose is of Tom Banks enchantingly d escribing the profile photo of a person he finds on Grindr as a match.
Based off the audio titled “The Real Tom Banks”, the part of the audio I chose is of Tom Banks enchantingly describing the profile photo of a person he finds on Grindr as a match.
I developed a concept based from this part of the audio and the surrounding story behind it. Tom sounds excited to meet this person, who he describes with such an exasperated tone, only to be met with disappointment at the meeting. From this, my concept reflects upon the idea of “Expectations vs. Reality”, which I pulled apart and focused on the workings of the human mind. If we were to ask 2 people to draw a car, we would end up with two very different drawings of cars. I researched on topics of human psychology and how different experiences can influence a person’s sense of reality. Stemming from the research I decided to create a motion design animation based on Tom Bank’s description of the Grindr profile. I wanted the animatic to have a sense of fluidity, but also give off an air of unclearness. Showing what is described in the audio without giving too much away was my aim. Also, I wanted to create a connection between the illustrations and the tone of voice.
